![]() We've raised enough awareness around #StutterStruggle at this point that it's borderline inconceivable that a major triple-A title should still release with this problem, but there it is. The infamous traversal stutter in Fallen Order that everyone noticed and complained about? It's back again in Survivor. ![]() Shader compilation stutter is back - despite the game kicking off with a precompilation pass. The developers have chosen to ignore them in a world where each provides improved quality for Nvidia and Intel GPU owners respectively - and that's unacceptable.Īll of this is borderline insignificant, however, compared to the PC port's other issues. Unreal Engine 4 has excellent DLSS and XeSS plug-in support. This applies to the entire image and all aspects of it, giving the game a motion blurred, ghost-like look - even if you turn motion blur off. Essentially, whenever an object or the camera moves, FSR2 causes a blurred pixelisation effect at all quality levels. For example, you only have access to TAA and FSR2 – and FSR2 is just not a good option for acceptable image quality. There are issues with other options as well. ![]() Watch on YouTube A video breakdown of this disappointing port. The only way to fix it is a full game restart after which performance returns to the level it was at earlier. There's also a litany of issues that get in the way of you figuring out whether options improve performance at all: for example, toggling ray tracing from on to off then back on again can make the game run worse than it initially did with RT on. There's zero context given to the user as to what the performance and visual ramifications are for each setting, leaving the player with no hints as to how to improve the experience for their specific hardware. The options are barebone UE4 standards, right down to their naming. The game's initial handshake with the player fails completely in improving over its predecessor. In terms of polish, performance and accessibility, this is actually far worse than Fallen Order, perhaps taking the cake as the worst triple-A PC port of 2023, despite some remarkably strong competition. Shader compilation stutter and traversal stutter are back, while the in-game options offer no recourse in addressing the game's key issues. This is somewhat hard to believe as all of the issues Fallen Order possessed return for the sequel, despite their staggeringly obvious nature. Original Story: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launched yesterday on PC and at this point in time, it's a technical failure on just about every level. However, telling is that the intensity and frequency of stutter remains unchanged. Watch on YouTube A very quick look at how frame-rate has improved via CPU optimisation in the first patch. It's good to see improvement to the PC code so quickly, but it's going to require time to get the game fully into shape. In some scenarios, this actually accentuates the stuttering effect - because the crash in performance is much the same as it was before, taking you to similar lows to the launch code, only in this case, the crash is coming from a higher average level of performance. More to the point, examining the frame-time graph shows that the stutter has the same intensity. However, you will also note that the peaks and troughs in frame-rate occur in the same areas. In our testing with RT off (Respawns states that CPU optimisations apply with RT disabled), the general performance level improves by around 13 percent overall on a mainstream Ryzen 5 3600, paired with an RX 6800 XT. However, the bad news is that based on performance testing, little has been done to improve the stuttering issues that impact the game so heavily on PC.īelow, we've posted a quick video comparing CPU-limited performance from the village in Koboh, which we found to have profound stuttering issues in the launch code. This is the start of a no-doubt long process to get the game into shape and the good news is that there is progress here. Console patches are due imminently, while the PC version was updated yesterday. UPDATE 2/5/23: In the wake of strong criticism of the PC launch for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, EA has revealed that patches are incoming for all versions of the game.
